My recomendation is to go with the defaults, so you'll only interact with the application when you choose what to record: the entire screen, a window, a rectangle you draw on the screen, if you want to record audio, and leave the encoding settings to their default values. It's simple wizard-like user interface may seem a bit confusing at first, but the tool is quite easy to use and powerful in the same time.
